Ferret vets are very different from your "run-of-the-mill" dog and cat vet.
Ferret vets are uniquely trained to deal with the various illnesses of ferrets, and can recognize the symptoms of a sick ferret that other vets might not notice.

Ferrets, since they are such small animals with such high metabolisms, can not wait for a vet to "figure out" what might be wrong with a ferret.

Below is a list of ferret vets that we use and can highly recommend for you and your beloved weasels. (they're good with other critters also)
Pine Point Animal Hospital
Dr. Katie Erswell
12 Pine Point Road
Scarborough, Me 04074
(207) 883-3301

Dr. Katie is our shelter vet, and takes care of all of our ferrets and other pets. She also donates her time and talents to the shelter.
Dr. Katie is owned by 6 ferrets, birds, cats and a Greyhound named Goofball.
Fryeburg Veterinary Hospital
Dr. Steve Caffrey
41 Bridgton Road
Fryeburg, Me
(207) 935-2244

Dr. Caffrey is a great ferret vet, but is too far away for us to use full time.
He is a great surgeon, very knowledgeable about ferrets and I would highly recommend him.
River Road Veterinary Hospital
Dr. Katherine Carter, DVM
210 River Road
Orrington, Me 04474
(207) 825-2105

While we do not use this vet, they are listed on the American Ferret Assoc. list, so someone must have recommended them.
Plus, they have donated to our shelter in the past.
